We published an article today on Firestone's use of child labor on their rubber plantation in Liberia today. Check it out and forward it to friends! Keep reading this post to find out about some of our other child labor news, including a brand-new report on child labor in the cotton industry in India!
For the Stop Firestone campaign, we started a new MySpace page and Facebook group. You can read Robtel Pailey's article on Firestone, "The Foul Stench of Firestone," in the Red Pepper, a political magazine from the UK. PLUS, read this article from The Analyst in Liberia about how Firestone is saying it will build water hand pumps for communities affected by their toxic dumping. Hmmm... maybe while they are at it, Firestone can take responsibility for their well-documented pollution of the Farmington River, remediate the damage and pay reparations to affected communities!
In terms of our cocoa campaign, you can send a letter to Nestle protesting their use of child labor from the Ivory Coast here. Check out a PSA on our cocoa campaign here.
You can read our new report Seeds of Change, focusing on how Monsanto and Bayer continue to drag their feet as thousands of children are subjected to bonded child labor in India, here.
